Typhoon Lagoon

Pam and I had hyped up the thrills of Typhoon Lagoon so much, that come the day we hoped that the boys wouldn't be dissapointed. We arrived mid morning to the usual packed car parks, but parked relatively easy close to the entrance. We rented a locker, which I eventually located, wandering past our number on several occasions. We had arrived with our costumes on, so simply had to discard our shorts, tops and shoes. We then made our way to the beach in the hope of finding a spot to claim and a seat, one at least for Nana to sit on. We did find a postage stamp of a location and a chair and with Nana comfortably established the boys and I set off to visit "The Wave". Jacob as keen as ever was quiet happy to place himself closer to the wave than either Ben or I considered comfortable. We ended up in three locations. Jacob at the front, with me in the middle and Ben bringing up the rear. Despite the doubts, especially of Ben, we all throuroughly enjoyed the effect of the wave. Its strange to see this huge expanse of water coming towards you , gradually loosing some of its height as it moves along the funnel of high sided walls. Both boys gradually got more and more adventurous, Jacob getting closer to the front, Ben staying put, despite my attempts to get him to move forward. Wherever they stood, or should that be got carried off their feet by the wave, they thoroughly enjoyed it. Nana joined us on a couple of occasions, standing with us, when using Bens "GoPro" camera I managed to get a movie of them with the mountain of water approaching in the background. Pam as in previous visits loves to sit on the wall at the end of the funnel, where you still get the effects of the wave, sufficiently such, that it still lifts you of your derriere. Pam feels safer, enjoying the wave this way, whereas, if she was standing, and inevitably being knocked off her feet she may struggle to stand again. There are lots of activities at the Lagoon, but as before we favoured just the "Wave" and the "Lazy River". The latter is a strip of water which encircles the lagoon, the water is warm and constantly flowing in a clock wise direction. You can enjoy the water by swimming in it, by walking or the most popular way is to be perched in one of the rubber rings that are constantly circling the route. You grab yourself a ring, tussling at the same time with all the other visitors, who are keen on doing the same, then comes the fun as you try to mount the ring, whilst people who have succesfully done so are moving around you. On my first trip in the water I tried three times to get my bum positioned in the ring, failing each time, arms and legs flapping as I fell into the water. Finally Ben came to my rescue and held the ring so that it didn't tip over as I scrambled to fit my rear over the rim of the ring. Pam, who loves this aspect of the visit simply used the ring as a float, not wishing to embarress herself by trying to scamble aboard. She had obviously watched me and thought twice about it. Great fun, meandering along the water, apart from the times when cold water pours on you, at one point where you enter the tunnel and at the other when other park visitors aim water cannons at you as you scurry past. We had a great time, enjoying the Wave and the Lazy River in gorgeous Florida sun. No need for towels after just a short time sitting out you had completely dried. If we ever go again, we need to explore the other activities at the Lagoon of which there are a number, and see if these are of interest - who knows?
