The first sight of the castle, whenever you drive towards the location, never fails to impress me, no matter how many times I visit. I think the same applies to my fellow passengers, Pam and Ben, who have been to this area, now, on a number of occasions, and, always appear eager to return. The weather today perfect, dry and not too hot. We parked, for free, just on the outskirts of the village, in a field opposite the Grace Darling Museum, and walked down the main road towards the castle. We decided to have lunch, before doing any exploring, and settled on "The Copper Kettle" as our choice of eatery. We started by sitting outside, as the weather was nice, but had to resort to being indoors, due to the number of wasps flying around. Wasp free indoors we enjoyed a very pleasant lunch and again at a reasonable price. Would whole heartedly recommend the venue. Suitably refreshed we walked towarrds the castle, with no intention of visiting today, just to admire. We sat and did just that from the village green come cricket pitch which sits at the foot of the castle. Ben & I decided to explore the area around the foot of the castle and left Pam to enjoy the amazing view. The two of us wandered to the side of the castle and eventually made our way around the building skirting the sand dunes to return in a full circle of the castle back to Pam. Numerous photo opportunities of the views of the coast both North and South and of the castle itself. Pleasant day at this amazing historic location.
