American Cemetry/Omaha Beach

Above: Americas war cemetery in Normandy, located at Colleville-sur-Mer on the site of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the U.S. First Army on June 8, 1944 as the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II. The flags are displayed in the Normandy American Cemetery Visitor centre, which tells the courageous and inspiring story, through displays, fact boards and film, of those buried here. The infinity pool is at the end of the exhibition room , pointing to the beach and the sea, from which the troops arrived in France back in June 1944. The staute is one of a pair that stands at the far end of the 172 acre cemetery. A truly moving experience (not for all) - a small but sinificant reminder to future generations of what was sacrificed for peace!
