Loughborough Model Railway Exhibition - July A fabulous day out with my two grandsons at the Great Central model railway exhibition, with the main exhibition area based at their Quorn centre and, with the added attraction of rides on the various locos and diesels being operated on their fabulous two track main line and all included in your entry ticket price. Just two of the ex- main line trains on duty during the time the exhibition was open. Steam Standard Class 5 mixed traffic locomotive number 73156. Then a Deisel Multiple Unit, DMU for short, a Class 101 manufactured by Metroppolitan Cammel. A workhorse on many rural country lines.
An amazing display of model railways of all gauges with the special attraction, for me at least, of James Street an incredible N Gauge layout of immense detail both buildings, for its layout design and complex track system. Despite mild protests from the boys I did manage to spend a fair bit of time just gazing in awe at the amazing concept of one man’s design and his incredible skill. This is Ben and my second visit to this exhibition and, fingers crossed, will turn out to be a regular event in our diary. First picture shows a cameo depicting "Dads Army". An amusing recreation on a OO gauge layout. This is then followed by three pictures of "James Street" an amazing N Gauge layout. The pictures sadly, cannot do justice to this remarkable layout. The layout is unique, in my mind at least, that it forms a complete viewable circle rather than the more common approach of a viewing front and working back fiddle yard. With the main manufacturers and, the ever growing number of sourcing dealers present, this is surely going to be a regular event in the model railway exhibition calendar. Not on the scale of Warley, by any means, which is held annually at the NEC, but with the added, unrivalled attraction of live steam and roaring diesels.
