A trip to Bolsover Castle July A return visit to Bolsover Castle an English Heritage site for Pam & I this time in the company of Ben. A better day, weather wise for the visit as last time. When Pam & I came it was freezing cold. Our visit, that time, was brief to say the least. The weather today better but still not a balmy summers day. The finer weather at least meant that we were able to explore the various buildings which make up this most impressive structure that dominates the skyline, clearly visible, especially as you travel up and down the M1. After a number of hours looking around, we availed ourselves of the nearby, i.e. adjacent, Wetherspoons Public House for an enjoyable and, as usual reasonable priced lunch. Caption: Posers on the castle battlement with the panoramic views, that the position of the castle offers, in the background. A view of the outer walls with much of the buildings and outer walls intact. Then of rooms within the Little Castle, once the extravagant retreat of Sir William Cavendish. The first showing the intricate detailing of the wood panneling of which you can catch a glimpse of again in the picture of the ornate fireplace within the same room. Finally another ornate and richly carved marble fireplace.
