RNLI Evening Cruise

An experience that Pam and I were pleased to have taken, yet prior to the event, knew nothing about. An evening outing with a difference which, started out when four of the Waggoner folk mentioned that they had booked the trip, to end up with eleven, us included, enjoying the delights of watching the sun set, whilst out at sea on an ex RNLI lifeboat. We travelled out from Ilfracombe harbour aboard RNLI The Hampshire Rose, decommissioned back in 1992 and still being used, rather than it being moth-balled. The RNLI The Hampshire Rose, has, since 2012, been giving pleasure to numerous holiday makers to this area of Devon either through her daytime sightseeing cruises or as with us the opportunity of seeing an amazing sunset. Skippered, by a member of the current RNLI lifeboat, stationed at Ilfracombe, we were given a most informative and entertaining 1.1/2 hours cruise up the coast, prior to returning with the sunsetting as we approached our return to Ilfracombe harbour. Pam & I, last on the boat, benefitted, for once, by being invited to enjoy the comfort of the captains cabin, whilst the rest sat outside on the bow. Our advantage, in the fact that we had a chance, throughout the trip, to talk with the skipper and as it became cooler, as the sun began to set, much warmer surroundings. Thanks initially to the four, we all enjoyed a great evenings natural entertainment.
